After a very spirited effort Lixnaw were beaten by two points in last evening's NK Intermediate League first round match against Abbeydorney. Lixnaw were short a significant number of players and, indeed, lined out short-handed for the opening period. Despite this, the players put in a tremendous effort and were competitive throughout the first three quarters of the game, It was then that matters took an exciting turn with a series of Lixnaw goals, a number of Abbeydorney saves and goalmouth scrambles which meant the result was very much in the melting pot as the final exciting minutes and seconds ticked down. Unfortunately, we weren't able to bridge the gap and a narrow defeat was the outcome. It is fair to say, however, that the spectators were treated to and enjoyed a cracker of a match and great credit to our lads for never giving in and representing the club so well. Fair play to ye all!
The Round 2 fixture is, again, a home one against great rivals, St. Brendan's on Wednesday evening next, 4th September, currently with a 6.30pm throw-in time.
